SCAR REVISION

Treatment

Scar revision improves the look of a wide, raised or tight scar, from surgery, injury, burns or acne. The old scar is removed and the wound carefully re-closed so it heals flatter, narrower and better aligned with your natural skin lines.

Dr Aras has specialist training in burns and reconstructive surgery, and treats scars of all kinds, including keloids, which need a combined plan of surgery and treatment afterwards to stop them returning. Most scar revisions are done under local anaesthetic: you are awake but should not feel sharp pain.

At a glance

  • Anaesthetic: Local anaesthetic
  • Hospital stay: Day case
  • Time off work: 1–7 days
  • Final result: 12–18 months

Approach

  1. Consultation & Planning – We assess the scar and your skin, and choose the right treatment, which is not always surgery.
  2. Anaesthesia – Usually local anaesthetic.
  3. Revision – The old scar is removed and the skin re-closed in layers along natural lines.
  4. Prevention – For keloids and thick scars, follow-up treatment helps keep the new scar flat.
  5. Recovery & Results – Stitches come out at 5–7 days on the face; the scar matures over 12–18 months.

Recovery

  • Don't miss your stitch removal: facial stitches left in too long leave marks of their own.
  • Avoid heavy lifting, bending and hot baths for 2 weeks.
  • If recommended, use silicone gel every day; it only works with consistent use over months.
  • New scars look red and firm before they get better, so we review at 3 months.

With careful technique and good aftercare, a scar can become much less noticeable.
